Landform: Introduction
Feng Shui is all about achieving balance through placement. Wouldn’t you like to know how good the energy is in the place where we live and where we work? Feng Shui rest upon the premise that we live surrounded by good and bad life energies called ‘qi’. The purpose of Feng Shui is both to enhance the flow of desirable energies and to deflect negative forces in order to bring good luck and prosperity.
Landform is main subject in an ancient Chinese metaphysics. The importance of a correct landform constitutes approximate 60% of the overall weight in good Feng Shui. Landform is putting position, direction and environmental factors together in a way and must not be in conflict. Therefore it refers to all factors found in the external and surrounding environment of a dwelling or land site. Landforms should include mountains and rivers, dry land and the ocean, other human made structures such as houses, buildings and streets.
There are the following types under landform – Dragon, Lair, Water and Direction. Feng Shui practitioners will assess the quality of any landform based on these types of imagery. When observing any landform, the practitioners will determine and classify the overall similarity of a given landform with any one of the above types. The final assessment will usually be an animal based on the overall likeness of the given landform with that particular animal.
The determining factor for good or bad Feng Shui of a given place is the classification of the landform by imagery based on the preceding procedures. First and foremost, we determine its landform which can resemble some phenomenon in daily lives. We always ask questions such as whether or not a dwelling is open and well located. Is the dwelling blocked by other high-rise buildings? Are there any pointed objects or features confronting the main entrance? Are there any straight streets running towards the dwelling? Are there strangely designed buildings, strange and jagged rocks to be seen? Are there churches, cemeteries or rubbish collection centres nearby? All these considerations are important as far as good landform is concerned because all the above structures or natural features can make people will be under stress or feel uneasy.
On the contrary, if we open the door of a dwelling to find no unsettling objects or structures in any direction then we will feel much calmer. Furthermore, we will not suffer from tension and other adverse conditioned reflex caused by these annoying objects because none will be seen. Instead, we will be enjoying the wonderful scenery of green hill tops that resemble an artistic. The view is both open and unrestricted with the Green Dragon coming in from the left for good fortune and White Tiger coming in from the right to protect. This would be the most ideal and favourable Feng Shui setting. In front, there should be a flat bench top mountain to welcome with strong water incoming and weak water outgoing. All these features will make a very good landform.
As we may know, there is large knowledge about external and surrounding environmental of a dwelling or land site. The following are few tips of the most commonly used and basic concepts:
- Dwelling located at the end of a cul-de-sac, across from a spiritual center are not desirable because these locations all have either too fast or not enough energy flow.
- Avoid living in a dwelling at a T-junction where oncoming traffic zooms directly.
- Choosing a dwelling site to build on, the ideal location is a rectangular plot of land, on a hill, with open space in front of the dwelling.
- Main entrance to the dwelling should be welcoming and positive. Clear the clutter.
- The main entrance of the commercial premise must not be facing a cross road.
- Stairs that face an entrance can route destructive energy directly to the upper levels.
- The back door directly from the front door. This will cause energy to flow quickly through the dwelling causing missed opportunities.
- The room entrance should not be facing the bathroom. This is not auspicious.
- There should be no toilet against the wall on the other side that where the bed head is located.
- The stove of the kitchen must not face the bedrooms.
- The end of the bed must not face the door. This is definitely bad for the health.
- Always sleep or work with a wall behind back. This will feel supported in career.
Apart from the basic landforms, there is other knowledge of landforms which reveal those for all over the world in Sages Academy, the practitioners have to understanding.
